(Press Release)OREM -- Seniors Josh Olsen, Brett Ravenberg, and Ryan Toolson and the Utah Valley University men's basketball team ended their season in fine fashion Wednesday night in the McKay Center with an 80-42 win over Houston Baptist, a future Great West Conference opponent.
The Wolverines finished their season with a 17-11 record, and have had winning seasons each year since becoming an NCAA Div. I program.
Toolson scored a game high 24 points and brought down six rebounds. Olsen scored 16 points, pulled down eight rebounds, dished six assists, and grabbed four steals. Ravenberg chipped in five points and eight boards.
"I was really pleased that we sent our seniors out on a terrific game," UVU head coach Dick Hunsaker said. "I was pleased with the way we defended tonight. The last 12 games of the season defense has really been our backbone. I like the energy we played with, and I like the purpose and determination we played with to send those seniors out as winners. I thought all three had outstanding games."
Toolson led all scorers at the half with 11 points, and Olsen followed closely behind with eight points. Olsen pulled down six rebounds in the half to lead in the category. The Wolverines shot 40.6 percent (13-for-32) in the half and held the Huskies to 6-of-32 shooting for an 18.8 field goal percentage.
Utah Valley extended its half-time lead to 20 points, 34-14, on a two-handed alley-oop jam by junior forward Jordan Swarbrick. Toolson set a screen for Swarbrick on the baseline, and Olsen lobbed him the ball.
The Wolverines played even better in the second half, shooting 64 percent from the floor (16-for-25) and outscoring the Huskies 46-28. Toolson had 13 more points, and Olsen had eight in the half. Swarbrick even threw down another alley-oop jam on a lob from Toolson on a fast break.
In total, UVU shot 50.9 percent (29-for-57) from the floor and held HBU to 27.6 percent (16-for-58). The Wolverines also recorded 47 rebounds and a season-low eight turnovers.
