COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. - BYU sophomore Jimmer Fredette has been named the Mountain West Conference Men's Basketball Player of the Week.

A 6-2 guard from Glen Falls, N.Y., Fredette led the Cougars to wins at San Diego State (69-59) and Utah (63-50) last week. Against San Diego State, he scored a game-high 28 points on 10-of-19 shooting, while recording a career-best five steals. Fredette scored 20 of his 28 points in the second half, including a personal 9-0 run to give BYU a 61-55 lead. He then dished out one of his four assists to complete a 15-0 BYU run to put the game away. Fredette also pulled down five rebounds, while hitting all six of his free-throw attempts. Against first-place Utah, Fredette scored game-best 25 points on 8-of-16 shooting, while dishing out two assists and collecting two steals.

On the week, Fredette averaged 26.5 points, 3.5 steals, 3.5 assists and 2.5 rebounds per game. He shot 51.4 percent from the field (18-for-35), 33.3 percent from beyond the arc (3-for-9) and 93.3 percent from the charity stripe (14-for-15).
