There will be no bail, for now, for an Ogden man accused of stabbing another man during a fight.

Kurt Hayes Wangler Jr. made his initial court appearance via video from the Weber County Jail on Friday. He's charged with first degree murder, aggravated burglary and felony escape.

Wangler was out of jail on work release when police say he stabbed 22-year old Tony Padilla to death on Tuesday after finding him at the home of Wangler's wife. Jail booking documents say Wangler admitted to the killing at 503 26th St. Wangler was arrested in Salt Lake City late Tuesday night. His wife, 22-year old Katherine Wangler, was with him. Police initially had feared she was in danger.

Wangler was in jail on a domestic violence charge on Feb. 9. Katherine Wangler says she was not notified that he was out of jail on work release. Ogden police say they're notified of domestic violence releases on a regular basis and will routinely notify the victims. But they say that technically Wangler was still in the custody of the jail at the time of the stabbing. He'd signed papers that included a pledge to stay away from his wife.

During Friday's court appearance, Wangler was assigned a court-appointed attorney. He'll be back in court for a bail hearing next week.
