An Ogden woman, whose husband is now charged with murder, never knew he was released from jail for brutally beating her up.
On Feb. 9, Kurt Wangler was arrested for beating his wife, Katherine Wangler. He was supposed to go look for work before returning to the jail on Tuesday, Feb. 17.
Police say he instead went back to the apartment he shared with his wife, who had a protective order against him.
Police say she wasn't notified of his release. Ogden City police LT. Tony Fox said "Looks like she probably wasn't. Generally, when we book somebody in jail and they are released from jail, we're contacted, and we go up and try to make notifications."
Fox says Wangler is now charged with aggravated burglary and felony murder for the stabbing of Tony Padilla. The attack happened just hours after Wangler's release from jail.

He forced his wife to flee with him, telling her she would also be accused in the crime. "We maintain that she was under duress, in fear of her safety," Fox said.
Wangler was arrested Tuesday night in Salt Lake City.
