The Obama administration is considering cracking down on snooping employers who reject job applicants for failing credit checks.
Attorney Marguerite Driesen says you can actually destroy your credit by looking for work. She says every time your credit is checked, it's a bad mark against your credit.
She says one job applicant was too trusting, "and found out months later that the person had stolen their identity and was going around using their social security number and birth date."
Driesen says there are no restrictions in Utah on employers checking an applicant's credit. "I also think it shouldn't be something you do when you send in your resume," she said.
Washington State restricts employers who want to snoop into an applicant's credit.
