SALT LAKE CITY (AP) -- Getting inked isn't cheap, but many tattoo artists say the recession isn't stopping people from forking it over for body art.

Kate Hellenbrand, a tattoo artist for the past 38 years who was in Salt Lake City for a tattoo convention over the weekend, says the media, sports figures and rock 'n' roll stars all promote the industry.

Artist Vinnie Almanza says he was booked all weekend and that for some people, tattoos are an addiction and they don't have a problem spending money on ink.

Amanda Brinkerhoff says she's certainly doesn't. She's saved up for a tattoo and says the sinking economy didn't play a factor in her plans to get one.
