FARMINGTON, Utah (AP) -- A Bountiful teenager pleaded not guilty Thursday to a murder charge related to the death of his mother, whose body was found stuffed in a freezer.

Jeremy Hauck, 18, was arraigned Thursday before 2nd District Judge Darwin Hansen on a first-degree felony charge of murder in the death of Laura Hauck, 51, according to Utah courts spokeswoman Nancy Volmer.

On Aug. 7, police went to the home Laura Hauck shared with her son after concerned family said neither of them had been seen for about two days. When there was no response at the door police entered through an open second story window, according to court documents.

Inside the home, officers found Laura Hauck's body in a chest-style freezer. She was shot twice in the head and her throat had been cut. Jeremy Hauck and the family car were gone. A shell from a .22-caliber gun was also found in the bedroom.

Hauck's attorney, Todd Utzinger, is seeking to have evidence found in the home ruled as inadmissible because a search warrant was not filed for officers to gain entry into the home.

Prosecutors say the information officers received from family members justified entry to the home.

Jeremy Hauck was arrested Aug. 9 at a motel in Missoula, Mont. Hauck and his mother lived in Montana before moving to Utah about two years ago.

A pretrial conference hearing is scheduled for Nov. 2.
