(KSL News) Researchers at the University of Utah have just received a significant grant to research diabetes.
The three-million dollar grant will go to researching a protein that promotes nerve and blood vessel growth.
Increased blood vessels and nerve growth could potentially prevent or reverse complications of the disease such as poor circulation, loss of limbs, blindness and cardiovascular disease.
The grants will also fund research into the cardiovascular effects of diabetes.
Heart disease is the most common cause of death for those with type 1 or 2 diabetes.
