The man convicted of making an explosion device that injured 12-year-old Bridger Hunt on Pioneer Day last year was ordered by a judge today to pay restitution.

Craig Miller of Lehi was ordered to pay $10,800 to Hunt and his family.

Restitution relates to his criminal conviction and is in addition to what civil litigation may require him to pay.

Miller was ordered to begin paying $300 a month immediately.

On July 24 last year, Miller was attempting to light a homemade firework. There was an explosion that sent a piece of shrapnel into the leg and abdomen of Hunt.

Hunt nearly died, underwent several surgeries and spent two months in the hospital. Home now, he still faces a long recovery.

Miller pleaded guilty to one felony count of possession of an explosive device and a misdemeanor charge of reckless endangerment in December and spent three weeks behind bars.

The judge will allow Miller to end his GPS monitoring of home confinement on March 15.
