(KSL News) -- A West Valley man died this morning after being hit by two cars.
The man parked his car across from a construction site, near 12791 S. Pioneer St., on his way to work. He crossed safely, but then for some reason, went back out into the street.
Lt. Paul Jaroscak, Salt Lake County Sheriff's Office: "We're not sure why the gentleman ran out into the street. There's speculation, maybe looking one way and not the other. But there's no way to know at this time."
A northbound car hit the man first, knocking him over. He was then hit by a southbound car. The man died at the scene.
Lt. Paul Jaroscak: "There were some other construction workers that worked with him that actually witnessed the event. They heard skids and turned and saw the collisions occur."
Police say it was dark at the time of the accident and the area is not well lit. However, they do know at least one of the cars had its headlights on.
They are still investigating the incident.
