WEST JORDAN, Utah (AP) -- The 83-year-old former president of a candy company has been sentenced to prison after pleading guilty to attempted aggravated sexual abuse of a child.

Third District Judge Royal Hansen ordered three years to life for Dale Glade. State law carries no mandatory minimum term, and Glade could be released before three years.

Glade had been charged with first-degree aggravated sexual abuse of a child and a misdemeanor count of lewdness.

He pleaded guilty to a reduced charge, admitting to touching the young female relative on several occasions between 1999 and 2001.

Glade was elected president of Glade Candy Company in 1963. His father, James Glade, was one of the founders.

Glade Candy changed its name to Taffy Town and is known for its salt water taffy.
