KSL Newsradio's Mary Richards reporting Utah school officials say recent shootings at schools in Pennsylvania, Colorado, and Wisconsin are a scary wake-up call for students and faculty to stay vigilant.
Teachers are supposed to immediately report any strangers in the hallways. Students have regular emergency drills. These are policies the Salt Lake City School District is reminding everybody about again.
"You have the material things, you have the design of the school, the doors you can lock, the video cameras," said district spokesman Jason Olsen. "But the human aspect of the safety plan is just as important."
The district sent out a memo to all schools listing security policies. Olsen says other districts are also talking about similar policies. They say these fatal shootings show safety is everyone's responsibility.
