(KSL News) Utah legislators are getting taxpayer money to stay in hotels during the legislative session, even if they don't ever stay in one.

Each year the state allots about $600,000 for legislators' food and lodging during the 45 day session. But some lawmakers pocket the money instead because they live so close they don't need a hotel.

Sen. John Valentine of Orem says that extra money adds up to about $300,000.
