Sam Penrod ReportingDrivers heading out for the weekend will see some changes to the HOV lane. UDOT has begun making improvements, including longer stretches of dotted lines for drivers to get in and out of the lane.
UDOT is making the changes in response to feedback from drivers, who found some problems with how the HOV lanes were set up. The first changes are new signs in the median, alerting drivers in the HOV lane when they need to get out of the lane in order to get off at their exit.
The other change crews have been working on this week is to extend the dotted line areas by another one thousand feet, so now drivers will have more than a half mile to get in or out of the new HOV express lane.
Nile Easton, UDOT Spokesperson: "A lot of people were actually missing it and then go pass it and back track. So now by having these signs those in/out points are two, two and a half miles from the interchanges. People now have more information they need to make the proper decision to leave the lanes safely."
On Monday morning UDOT will start selling 500 more of those toll passes, which allow single drivers to be in the HOV lane. Initially UDOT sold 600, but believes adding another 500 won't cause any congestion to the HOV lane.
With a lot of people hitting the road this weekend, we want to alert you to some freeway restrictions in Utah County. For the next three nights from 10pm until 6am, only one lane on I-15 will be open between the north Spanish Fork exit and the north Springville exit.
If you would like to buy one of those toll passes for $50 dollars a month, follow the link to UDOT"s Express Lane website.
