Pictures courtesy of UHP(KSL News) An accident shut down Spanish Fork Canyon today for several hours.

Highway Patrol troopers say a minivan was heading up the canyon when it hit a patch of ice. The driver lost control, slid sideways into oncoming traffic and was hit by a truck.

Spanish Fork Canyon reopened after accident

The driver of the van was taken to the hospital in critical condition but has since been upgraded to serious condition.

Eight children in the van were also taken to the hospital, one in critical condition.

The truck driver was not hurt.

Troopers say it appears all of the people in the van were wearing seat belts.

The canyon was closed for about two hours but has since reopened.
