UHP arrests 14 for drunk driving over New Year's

SALT LAKE CITY (AP) -- The Utah Highway Patrol arrested 14 suspected intoxicated drivers in Salt Lake and Utah counties over New Year's.

Trooper Cameron Roden says more officers were out on the road this year. He says there were no major DUI crashes or injuries as the year changed from 2008 to 2009.

A year ago, the highway patrol reported six arrests in the two counties over New Year's. Two years ago there were 10 arrests.

Salt Lake County Sheriff's Deputy Levi Hughes says his agency made about three dozen traffic stops and four arrests for drunken driving over the holiday. The sheriff's office had eight extra deputies on duty.

Salt Lake City police reported making five arrests New Year's Eve and five arrests New Year's Day.
