(KSL News) Family and friends of murder victims gathered tonight to honor and remember lives lost.

Organizers held a candlelight vigil tonight at the International Peace Gardens at 1060 South 900 West.

The event was part of The National Day of Remembrance for Murder Victims.

Keri Meldrum/Lost Son: "It's hard to remember our loved ones, but it's not all sorrow. It also can be joy because we want to remember those good times."

Organizers say it helps new victims' families begin the healing process.

There are about 300 members of the Utah chapter of the Parents of Murdered Children organization.
