(KSL News) For the first time since 1999, research funding at the University of Utah has decreased.
In 2005 the school had 318-million dollars toward research. This year it dropped to less than 300-million dollars.
Competition for funding from entities like the National Institute of Health and the Department of Defense has increased. Also, money from the agencies is less as they deal with the war in Iraq and natural disasters like Hurricane Katrina.
However, other schools in the state aren't having the same problem.
Utah State University's funding increased by about one- million dollars. And BYU increased its total funding from 34-million dollars to 37-million.
