SOUTH JORDAN — A South Jordan man was arrested Sunday night and accused of firing a couple of rounds through his window during a domestic dispute.

Donovan Michael-Dyrda Sandrey, 41, was booked into the Salt Lake County Jail for investigation of two counts of discharge of a firearm, assault, and two counts of shooting a gun within 600 feet of another building.

The investigation began about 6:30 p.m. Sunday when a homeowner near 10660 South and 1260 West "located two bullet holes in her garage" and then noticed that the front windows of a house next to hers "were broken outwards with glass on the front lawn of the residence. The (homeowner) noticed a large amount of blood on the window pieces and then walked away and called 911," according to a police booking affidavit.

Police made multiple attempts to contact someone inside the home with the blood and broken windows, and said a woman came to the door "after several hours." The woman was identified as the victim in this incident and had several visible injuries, the affidavit states.

Sandrey initially refused to come out "despite multiple attempts to get him to exit the home. "After an hourslong standoff the male eventually proceeded to exit the residence with his hands up and empty," police noted.

When asked about the shell casings that were found and the broken window, "Donovan stated he had been drinking vodka with his wife and blacked out and shot the window twice then punched it out," according to the arrest report. "Donovan clearly has shown no restraint by firing a .45 caliber firearm negligently out his window and striking the garage of a neighboring house while it was occupied. Donovan stated when he is drinking alcoholic beverages, he cannot control it and blacks out and 'attacks' his wife."
