MILAN — Here in Cortina, people keep lining up to take pictures to commemorate their time here. In the process, they're building bridges and sharing the joy.
It seems to be mutually understood that people here will exchange pictures here, celebrating that spirit of friendly competition that embodies the Games.
"It's actually a lifetime dream, I think, for the both of us to be at the Olympics," said Sabrina Kreis, of Germany. "We are sports fans. Especially a winter sport."
Some are here supporting loved ones, like Sandy Fraebel. Her daughter is competing in luge.
"Competition is today. After that, I hope I be happy," she said.
But whether you've traveled across the globe, or not all that far, everyone is pushing differences aside and coming together.
"Having Olympics at my home, it's very exciting," said Sophie Mayer, who's from Italy. "And I just, I'm looking forward to what's about to come."
Some are enjoying the sites of a place new to them.
"We've been walking across the old town in Cortina," said Rupert Staudinger, of Germany. "And then you can really feel the spirit here. It's a lot of super diverse nationalities."
It shows that, even in the spirit of competition, you can cheer for the other guys once in a while.
"We're wearing our flag with the Olympic rings, and the United States is awesome," said Andreas Ehret, of Germany.
