OGDEN — An Ogden man has been charged with kidnapping and sodomy stemming from an alleged sexual relationship with a minor several years ago that lasted around a year.
The Weber County Prosecutor's Office on Monday charged David Jonathan Phillips, 43, with a count of aggravated kidnapping and a count of forcible sodomy, first-degree felonies, as well as a count of sexual exploitation of a minor, a second-degree felony.
Phillips, then 35 or 36, allegedly met a minor in 2018 via a dating app and engaged in a sexual relationship with him for around a year, until some time in 2019, according to charging papers. Phillips would allegedly pick the minor up at his home in Roy, where he lived with his parents. The two would then drive to Phillips' home at the time in Clearfield, where they'd engage in sexual activity. The minor was 14 or 15 at the time.
"At no time were (the minor's) parents notified, nor did they consent to have this adult male take their child anywhere. David would use coercive means to continue his sexual abuse of (the minor), including physical acts of violence and threats of suicide if (the minor) attempted to leave or end the relationship," charging papers read.
Authorities were able to corroborate the allegations via photos, text messages and more, charging papers say. Phillips is being held without bond in the Weber County Jail.
