PRICE — A fourth grade teacher was hit by a car Wednesday in Price and later died.

The crash happened just after 7 p.m., near 500 N. 300 East, when the vehicle hit a 64-year-old woman who was crossing the street, the Price Police Department said. The woman was identified Thursday by the Carbon School District as Linda Garvin, a fourth-grade teacher at Castle Heights Elementary School.

"We have very heavy hearts in the great loss to our Castle Heights Elementary family. Linda Garvin, a beloved 4th-grade teacher, died last night due to injuries sustained in an accident. Our Crisis Response Team has been at the school and will continue to provide services for students and staff," said a statement posted on the district's website.

The driver, who was the sole person in the car, is said to be a teenager. A Friday release from the department said the driver stayed on scene and has been cooperative with law enforcement.

Police said Garvin was attending a work-related Christmas party and was in a crosswalk with a group of other pedestrians at the time of the accident. She was taken to Castleview Hospital in critical condition, where she eventually died, police said.

"We extend our deepest condolences to her family and all those affected by this tragic incident," police wrote in a release Friday.

Officials did not indicate what may have been a factor in the accident, but the investigation is ongoing.
