SALT LAKE CITY — The first College Football Playoff rankings are out, which means the end of the regular season is drawing near.

But there's plenty more football to be played before the postseason, and Friday night is the first opportunity for a Group of Six team to establish itself in the pecking order for a potential playoff bid, with Memphis looking to maintain its standing against Tulane.

Arguably the biggest game of the weekend, though, will be played in Lubbock, where an undefeated BYU team will look to upend a Texas Tech team that is favored by double digits in a home game also hosting ESPN "College GameDay." It's a major game for its Big 12 title implications.

Another standout game is Oregon traveling to Iowa as the Ducks look to secure a quality win on their Big Ten path. But could the Hawkeyes force the Ducks to play Iowa football and hurt a potential playoff bid?

And just for fun, we have two ACC teams who in the preseason were expected to be in contention for a conference title and a deep playoff run. Instead, the two teams have a combined nine losses and nothing is going well. So who is the better of the two bad teams?

Lastly, it's a Utah State team hoping to pick up some end-of-season momentum at home as it hosts a 1-7 Nevada team. Saturday night should be a win, but football can be a crazy sport.
