OGDEN — An Ogden man has been charged with drug trafficking after police say they discovered more than 2,000 fentanyl pills in his motel room.
Agents with the Weber-Morgan Narcotics Strike Force executed a search warrant on Friday at Ramdy Erasto Gomez's Ogden motel room. There, they discovered 4 ounces of methamphetamine, more than 2,000 fentanyl pills and "a large amount" of cash, according to a police booking affidavit in the case.
Prosecutors in Weber County charged the man in 2nd District Court with trafficking fentanyl and possession of a controlled substance with the intent to distribute, first-degree felonies. He's also charged with money laundering, a second-degree felony.
Gomez, 34, "admitted to driving from California to Utah and distributing large amounts of methamphetamine and fentanyl from the motel room over the last week," according to the affidavit. The charging documents also state that he told authorities that most of the cash found in the motel room was gained by selling drugs.
Gomez was convicted of possession of a controlled substance with the intent to distribute in 2017, according to the affidavit, potentially increasing the penalties he faces on the new charges.
He was booked into jail and is being held without bail, and is scheduled to make his initial appearance in court on Wednesday.
