RIVERTON — A Hurricane man already facing charges tied to two shooting incidents on the same night is now facing additional criminal charges after police say child sex abuse material was found on his phone.

Tyler Michael Collins, 34, was charged last week in 3rd District Court with 10 counts of aggravated sexual exploitation of a minor, a first-degree felony; and two counts of unlawful sexual conduct with a 16-year-old, a third-degree felony.

Collins is already facing two counts of attempted aggravated murder, a first-degree felony, and other charges for two shooting incidents in June.

On June 27, Collins arrived at a Riverton residence where his ex-girlfriend's father and her brother told him he was not welcome, and an argument ensued. When Collins got back into his car, he pointed a gun at the victims and drove off, charging documents state.

"Collins proceeds to do a U-turn and park behind some foliage, exiting the vehicle and running toward the residence. (The father and brother) were standing on the porch talking to 911 when Collins is observed running up the driveway toward them, pointing the firearm and firing," the charges state. "Collins fired 12 rounds at (them), striking the porch and pillars … before running back to the waiting vehicle."

A police booking affidavit further notes that "one of the rounds or shrapnel hit (the) father in the head and caused him to begin bleeding."

Collins was eventually tracked down in Taylorsville by police and arrested. When he was arrested, he was in a vehicle with a 16-year-old girl.

The girl confirmed to police that "she and Collins had been traveling down Parleys Canyon when another vehicle cut them off. (She) stated this upset Collins and he began chasing the vehicle. (She) stated Collins pointed the firearm out of the window and fired at the vehicle, striking it," the charges allege.

Collins' car was searched after he was arrested and detectives found a gun that had been reported as stolen out of Washington County, according to the charges.

Police also seized Collins' and the teen's cellphones.

"A search warrant was obtained, and child sexual abuse material was found on (Collins') iPhone," including pictures and videos of the 16-year-old girl, the charges state.
