KAYSVILLE — Move over Travis Hunter, Charles Woodson, and former Utes player Sione Vaki, there's a new two-way star emerging in the football ranks.

Davis High's Bode Sparrow has been nothing short of spectacular this season, and his two-way skills were on full display in Davis' 42-14 victory over Olympus on Friday.

The junior, who plays wide receiver and defensive back, had himself a game under the Friday night lights. Sparrow hauled in three receiving touchdowns while also snagging two interceptions in the Darts' blowout victory.

Because of his incredible performance, Sparrow has been named this week's KSL.com Sports high school football player of the week, which is presented with support by Cafe Rio.

"Friday night, Bode's talent was on full display," Davis head coach Scott Peery said. "He played every snap on both sides of the ball and his grit showed as he continuously made plays. You can take it to the bank that Bode is going to make several big-time plays every Friday night."

Many on the outside would see the stat line that Sparrow had on Friday and be amazed; but the truth is, this has become a weekly occurrence for Sparrow.

Through Davis' 4-1 start to the season, Sparrow leads the team in touchdowns (nine) and interceptions (six). He's also become a go-to receiver for quarterback Tradon Bessinger as the pair have led one of the best scoring attacks in the state of Utah.

Despite recording three touchdowns and playing lockdown defense on the other side of the ball, Sparrow's head coach knows he can still get better.

"The unique thing about Bode is his work ethic and hunger to be better each and every week," Peery said. "He puts in countless hours on his skill set that is second to none. We all know the talent he possesses, but what stands out to me more than anything is his leadership he carries. He has natural leadership qualities about him that is infectious to his teammates."

The Darts jumped out to a 28-0 halftime lead over Olympus thanks to two first half touchdowns from Sparrow, who also helped anchor a defense that didn't allow a score until 7:52 left in the third quarter.

"It was a solid win for us," Sparrow said. "Olympus was a tough squad. We played well on both sides of the ball and I'm glad I was able to contribute on both sides. Since the loss against Fremont, our team has been super focused, and I'm excited to see where this season goes. We've got a lot of weapons and can be very dangerous."

Sparrow will have to lead another dynamic performance from the offense as Davis will be in for a tough matchup when they face undefeated American Fork on the road this week as they close out non-region play.
