GARLAND, Box Elder County — An off-duty Garland Fire Department firefighter was critically injured Friday after a crash involving an ATV and a vehicle on state Route 13.

According to a Facebook post from the department, the crash occurred shortly after 1 p.m.

The department, multiple law enforcement agencies and an ambulance responded to the scene and, upon arrival, discovered that the ATV operator had been ejected onto the roadway.

The post said bystanders were providing aid before the arrival of the emergency crews.

The man "received initial treatment at the scene and was transported by ground to a local hospital. There, emergency personnel coordinated a transfer to an air medical team, and he was subsequently flown to a regional trauma center in critical, but stable condition," said the department's post.

The department said the man's name is currently being withheld "out of respect for the firefighter and his family."

The Utah Highway Patrol is investigating the cause of the accident.
