MURRAY — A woman was hit and killed by a TRAX train Wednesday as she was crossing the tracks while wearing headphones, transit officials said.

About 4:15 p.m., the Utah Transit Authority announced there would be delays along the Red and Blue lines due to a train and pedestrian accident. UTA spokesman Gavin Gustafson said an 18-year-old woman was crossing to the other side of the platform at the Murray Central Station, 140 W. Vine Street, when she was hit by a Blue Line train.

The woman was wearing headphones while crossing and was apparently unaware that a train was coming, Gustafson said. Her identity has not been released.

A bus bridge was put in place for both Red and Blue lines, but the trains were up and running on their regular schedules again as of 10 p.m. Wednesday.

It's important to "keep your wits about you" while near trains, Gustafson said, adding that September is Rail Safety Month.
