SALT LAKE CITY — Utah police are reportedly investigating a third alleged domestic violence incident involving Utah-based reality star Taylor Frankie Paul and her former boyfriend, Dakota Mortensen.
A spokesperson for the West Jordan Police Department said Mortensen contacted authorities in February with allegations of domestic violence against Paul related to a 2024 incident.
Mortensen told authorities he was directed to the West Jordan Police Department by the Draper Police Department due to the jurisdiction of the alleged 2024 incident.
"Investigators are actively working to gather and verify information and are in the process of interviewing those involved. At this time, no charges have been filed, as the investigation remains ongoing," West Jordan Police Sgt. Adam M. Julian said Wednesday. "We recognize there is significant public interest in this case; however, it is being handled in the same manner as any other investigation. Our procedures and standards are applied consistently and without exception."
The latest investigation comes less than a week after ABC canceled Paul's season of "The Bachelorette," just three days before its scheduled premiere.
ABC announced it would not air the show after TMZ published leaked footage of a physical altercation from 2023 in which Paul is seen kicking Mortensen and throwing metal barstools at him.
In a statement obtained by People magazine, a spokesperson for Paul said, "Taylor is very grateful for ABC's support as she prioritizes her family's safety and security. After years of silently suffering extensive mental and physical abuse as well as threats of retaliation, Taylor is finally gaining the strength to face her accuser and taking steps to ensure that she and her children are protected from any further harm."
Paul entered a plea in abeyance to an aggravated assault charge in August 2023 connected to a February 2023 domestic violence incident.
Salt Lake County District Attorney Sam Gill said in a statement that his office "requested all the investigative material to screen the most recent allegations for charges."
"We made the request because of the potential that if charges are filed, they could be enhanced due to a prior plea in abeyance to a domestic violence offense," Gill added.
Paul built a career as a leading influencer in the viral #MomTok community on TikTok, a group of Utah women who share clips of their lives online. She has also starred in four seasons of the Hulu reality show "The Secret Lives of Mormon Wives," filmed in Utah, which has chronicled her on-again, off-again relationship with Mortensen.
Last week, Draper police confirmed that there is a separate ongoing "domestic assault investigation" involving Paul and Mortensen, and that "allegations have been made in both directions." The police spokesperson also said that "contact was made with involved parties on (Feb.) 24 and 25."
The ongoing investigation has put filming for the fifth season of "The Secret Lives of Mormon Wives" on hold and it will remain paused for the foreseeable future.
"It's been a heavy time to see the headlines," Paul said on "Good Morning America" last week.
"I'm a person that will always speak my truth. That's what I'm known for. So when the time is right, I will be," she added. "But right now (I'm) just trying to be in the present moment ... but the thing is my kids do come first."
