MOAB — A man was arrested in Moab early Tuesday after allegedly ramming two sheriff's patrol vehicles while trying to escape in his own car.

Flying Eagle Lee, 39, was booked into the Grand County Jail for investigation of assault on a police officer, failing to stop for police, DUI, interfering with police, having an open container of alcohol in the car and two other misdemeanor crimes.

Just before 1 a.m. Tuesday, Grand County sheriff's deputies were called to a trailer park in Moab where a man was driving recklessly in the parking lot. When two deputies arrived, Lee refused to pull over and drove off, sideswiping a parked vehicle in the process, according to a police booking affidavit.

One deputy drove in front of Lee and the other behind him.

Lee "then rammed front-to-front into (the lead deputy's) patrol vehicle. I then pulled up right behind the vehicle and the driver of the vehicle, Flying Eagle, went into reverse and rammed into the front of my patrol vehicle with the back of (his) vehicle," the affidavit states.

As Lee continued to rev his engine, a deputy approached the driver's side door and ordered Lee at gunpoint to show his hands.

"The driver immediately put his hands up, and Flying Eagle stated, 'If you shoot me, I'll shoot you.' I then told Flying Eagle to keep his hands where I can see them," the deputy wrote in the affidavit.

After arresting Lee, he refused to get into a police patrol car to be taken to jail and officers "had to go hands-on" to get him into the vehicle, the affidavit says.

Deputies reported finding several empty containers of alcohol in Lee's vehicle.

After he was arrested, Lee told police he "drank too much and was intoxicated, as well as stating, 'I agree to the laws, I know I broke it,'" according to the arrest report.
