LINDON — A 19-year-old Lehi man was arrested early Thursday after the Utah Highway Patrol reported that it recorded him traveling 133 mph on I-15.
About 12:30 a.m., a trooper was watching for speeders on I-15 near Lindon when an Audi S4 drove by at 107 mph, a police booking affidavit states.
As the trooper pulled onto the freeway to pull the Audi over, he noted the driver kept speeding up.
"As I began to enter the freeway, I observed the speed on my radar at 115 mph and climbing to 117 mph. I kept a good visual on the vehicle as it continued to increase its speed even more. I again had a reading on my radar indicate a speed of 127 mph, then 133 mph was the final reading on the radar," the affidavit alleges.
The driver eventually pulled over near Orem. When the trooper asked the driver why he was going so fast, he "stated something along the line that he 'just wanted to,'" according to the affidavit.
Troopers also reported finding a 12-pack of beer in the vehicle that appeared to have been purchased recently.
The man was booked into the Utah County Jail for investigation of reckless driving, speeding over 100 mph, exhibition driving and being a minor in possession of alcohol.
