MAGNA — Three people face criminal charges tied to a drug lab found in a garage at a Magna home where two young children were living.
Thomas Jason Vu, 45, of Murray, and Cristacy Angelina Zdunich, 21, of Magna, were each charged Tuesday in 3rd District Court with operating a clandestine lab, a first-degree felony; two counts of child endangerment, a third-degree felony; and possession of drug paraphernalia, a class B misdemeanor, and other charges.
On May 21, following several weeks of investigation into Vu, a search warrant was served by the West Jordan Street Crimes Unit and SWAT team members at a home in Magna near 8700 West and 2600 South. Drugs, drug paraphernalia and more than $20,000 in cash were found in Vu and Zdunich's bedroom, according to charging documents. More drugs were found in Vu's car.
"Investigators located a Pyrex dish, a large red cooler containing several used glassware, acetone, beakers and chemicals, which appeared to be parts for a clandestine lab" in the garage. The DEA lab team responded to the scene and collected samples," the charges state.
Police say the samples tested positive for bath salts and ketamine. Officers also reported finding meth in Jason Brady Adler's room.
Two children, ages 3 and 10, were also found in the house.
In addition to the other charges, Vu was also charged Tuesday with three counts of drug possession with intent to distribute, a first-degree felony, because of his prior criminal history. Zdunich was also charged with two counts of drug possession with intent to distribute, one second-degree and one third-degree felony.
Adler, 39, of Magna, was charged with two counts of child endangerment, a third-degree felony; drug possession, a class A misdemeanor; and possession of drug paraphernalia, a class B misdemeanor.
Vu was charged in another case of drug distribution in 3rd District Court in January.
