SALT LAKE CITY — A 53-year-old man was arrested in Salt Lake City for allegedly having a blood-alcohol level that police say was "so high that if he continues to drive (it) will be a matter of time before he hurts someone."

Jamie Boyd was booked into the Salt Lake County Jail on Thursday for investigation of repeat DUI and being an alcohol-restricted driver.

Salt Lake police were called to 425 S. Redwood Road after being flagged down by a resident. They found Boyd sitting in a parked car with an open beer container in the center console, according to a police booking affidavit. Officers confirmed through nearby surveillance video that Boyd had driven to that location.

Police said Boyd had "drooping eyes" and officers "detected a strong odor of an alcoholic beverage coming from his breath."

When asked to perform field sobriety tests, police noted that he "had a difficult time following directions," "lost balance during instructions for the walk and turn," "missed heel-to-toe, stepped offline, used his arms for balance, and made an improper turn" and "was swaying during the one leg stand, used his arms for balance, and put his foot down several times before not completing the test," according to the affidavit.

An initial test of Boyd's blood-alcohol level resulted in a reading of .308%, or more than six times the legal driving limit.

"(Boyd) has two previous DUI convictions in 10 years. (His) blood-alcohol content is so high that if he continues to drive (it) will be a matter of time before he hurts someone," the affidavit states.

Court records show Boyd had a very lengthy criminal history dating back nearly 30 years.
