WHITE CITY — A 16-year-old boy has been arrested in connection with a shooting at a Salt Lake County park that police believe is drug-related.

On Feb. 20, a 17-year-old boy was shot at Big Bear Park, 930 E. Onyx Lane. Unified police originally responded to the park on a report of shots being fired and were told a short time later the teen showed up at a local hospital with injuries not considered to be life-threatening. Investigators found shell casings at the scene.

Police say the teen has since been released from the hospital.

"Detectives have determined that the shooting resulted from a drug-related dispute involving individuals with known gang affiliations. Those involved have no connection to the local community or schools in the area," Unified police said Wednesday.

A 16-year-old boy was arrested in Sandy on Feb. 28 for investigation of aggravated robbery and discharge of a firearm. Detectives believe the incident was the result of a drug deal gone bad.

Anyone with information on the incident is asked to call police at 801-840-4000.
