SALT LAKE CITY — The 6A girls state championship rematch between Lone Peak and Copper Hills Thursday at the Huntsman Center matched the hype, but the result was the same in the end.
The Knights from Alpine rallied from an early double-digit deficit to the Grizzlies and went into halftime down just 6 thanks to a 3-pointer from Zuri Nordstrom to end the second quarter.
Junior Kennedy Woolston came out aggressive from halftime for Lone Peak, getting 4 of her 9 points in the game to give the three-time reigning champs the lead 31-30 with 5:20 left in the third quarter. She also added a game-high five steals against the Grizzlies.
The teams traded big threes and big turnovers over the final 13 minutes until the game was tied at 42-42 with 12 seconds remaining and Lone Peak heading to the free-throw line. The Knights made four free throws and held the Grizzlies scoreless to complete the four-peat as 6A girls' state champions in a 46-42 win.

"It means a lot; it's incredible," Lone Peak head coach Nancy Warner said of the quartet of titles. "But I am so fortunate as a coach to coach such great players. Not only are they extremely talented and skilled, but they're also just such great girls who love each other, so that's what makes the grind every day worth it."
The championship game in and of itself was a grind, with Warner saying they knew it would be a "huge fight" against a "phenomenal" Copper Hills team that entered the playoffs as the No. 1 seed to Lone Peak's 7-seed.
Junior transfer guard Tati Harness from La Jolla, California, was the only Lone Peak player to reach double digits in the championship game with 13, including going 4-for-5 from the free-throw line. Copper Hills was led by seniors Aspen Fraser and Skylie Barker with 10 and 9 points, respectively, with Barker adding four blocks.
"I'm new, but I love this team," Harness said when asked about the four-peat. "All the girls and the coaches have deserved nothing less."
