PROVO — Multiple criminal charges were filed Friday against a California man accused of calling two dozen Utah County schools and falsely reporting that a mass shooting was about to happen.
Shawn Bradley Kelsey, 48, of Sunol, California, is charged in 4th District Court with 24 counts of emergency reporting abuse, a second-degree felony.
On Nov. 15, Kelsey called 24 elementary schools in Utah County and left messages stating, "You need to make somebody aware that there could be a mass school shooting," according to charging documents.
The messages also stated that someone "has repeatedly said something about having an Uzi machine gun and killing everyone," the charges state.
Because of the calls, all 24 schools were placed on lockdown.
