WEST VALLEY CITY — Troopers have identified the man killed in a two-vehicle collision on I-215 in West Valley City Friday evening.
At about 4:20 p.m. state troopers from the Utah Highway Patrol said they responded to a "serious crash on I-215 W Southbound at 3100 South."
According to a news release, 48-year-old Leonardo Abraham Angel Mejia had parked his Chevy Tahoe on the left shoulder of the road, and was outside the truck, between the barrier and the vehicle when a Nissan van drifted out of its lane and crashed into the truck.
The truck was violently pushed into Angel Mejia, causing fatal injuries. He was pronounced dead at the scene, according to the Utah Highway Patrol, and the "circumstances surrounding the other vehicle leaving its lane are still under investigation."
Angel Mejia's city of residence was not released.
The left three southbound lanes were closed while troopers investigated and cleaned up the scene.
A spokesperson for the highway patrol said the male driver of the Nissan van did not suffer any serious injuries.
