SOUTH SALT LAKE — Authorities responded to a gathering of some sort where shots were fired in South Salt Lake early Monday, detaining numerous people, the South Salt Lake City Police Department said in a Facebook post.

"There was a large gathering earlier this morning and shots were fired," reads the post. "Multiple people have been taken into custody."

The post provided few additional details, but said the scene — around 3600 S. 300 East — remained active as of Monday morning and the investigation continued. "This appears to be (an) isolated incident. We are asking people residing in the immediate area to remain in their homes and all others to please avoid the area," reads the post.

A later update said that the area had reopened. "Some police presence may remain as the investigation continues," South Salt Lake police wrote. "Thank you residents for your patience and cooperation."

South Salt Lake police as well as members of the Unified police's special weapons and tactics team responded to the incident.
