WASHINGTON — Sonny Milano recorded his first NHL hat trick and Alex Ovechkin scored again to help the Washington Capitals beat the Carolina Hurricanes 7-6 in a shootout. John Carlson also scored early in the third period and Connor McMichael got the go-ahead goal with 6:07 left. Dylan Strome got the only goal in a five-round shootout. The Capitals have won four of five to move one point back of a playoff spot with 13 games left to play this season. Carolina lost for just the second time in 10 games and had its winning streak snapped at five.
