GARLAND, Box Elder County — A teen sustained what officials believe to be serious injuries after a suspected "hood surfing" incident on Friday at Bear River High School.
First responders were called to the school shortly after 11 a.m. after a report of an incident involving a car and pedestrian. Tremonton Fire Chief Brady Hansen said a boy under 18 sustained injuries while "hood surfing."
Tremonton-Garland Police Chief Dustin Cordova said the victim had been riding on top of a friend's car when the friend hit the brakes. The victim fell and hit his head on the ground.
Local responders rendered aid, but the teen was later flown to Primary Children's Hospital in Salt Lake City for care. Hansen said he thinks the teen sustained "very serious injuries."
Cordova said police are investigating the matter as a potential criminal case because of the reckless nature of the incident. He said the driver and victim are students at Bear River High School.
