SPANISH FORK — A teenager was seriously injured after he fell out a vehicle and hit his head Friday morning, police said.
Spanish Fork police said just before 9 a.m., officers were dispatched to 100 N. 400 East for an auto-pedestrian accident. When officers arrived, they learned a person had fallen out of a vehicle.
Five teens left Spanish Fork High in a Jeep Grand Cherokee and were heading east on Center Street when they turned left onto 400 East. At the same time, the front passenger "decided to open his door and lean out of the vehicle," police said.
The passenger grabbed onto the handle above the door, but the handle broke, causing him to fall out. He sustained serious head trauma in the fall and was transported to a hospital, officers said.
At first, the driver said he thought he felt a bump and was worried he drove over his friend, but hospital staff determined there were no injuries consistent with being run over.
Police said all of the teenagers in the car are cooperating with the investigation. Their ages have not been released.
