KONA, Hawaii — An 83-year-old man from Centerville died in a suspected drowning while snorkeling in Hawaii on Thursday.
About 10 a.m. in Kona on the Big Island, Wayne Argyle was participating in a guided snorkeling tour in Kealakekua Bay, but after being in the water for about five minutes, a crew member noticed him drifting facedown toward the boat, Hawaii police said.
Police said the crew member tried to get his attention and tapped him on the back, but Argyle didn't respond. Argyle was brought onto the boat and received CPR while the boat returned to the harbor.
He was taken to the Kona Community Hospital, but was pronounced dead upon arrival.
Police said there is no foul play suspected, but the cause of death is being investigated.
