OREM — A Utah County man who allegedly set "booby traps" for his roommate before confronting police with a knife is facing several criminal charges.
Jacob Eli Wilson, 24, was charged Thursday in 4th District Court with assault on a police officer, a second-degree felony; and making a threat of violence, failing to give police his identity, marijuana possession and possession of drug paraphernalia — all class B misdemeanors.
On Saturday, Orem police were called to the area of 1400 South and 700 East after Wilson allegedly threatened his roommate's life, according to charging documents.
"(He) banged on the roommate's walls and doors and said if the roommate came out of the room he would lose a foot. The defendant was blowing an air horn, said that he had booby-trapped the room and poured vinegar all over the floor in front of the roommate's room," the charges state.
The roommate climbed out of his bedroom window and went down the street to call police.
When officers arrived, Wilson initially did not answer the door. Police then knocked on a window where they could see Wilson. Wilson allegedly told the officers, "You're about to get (expletive) up. I'm serious," according to the charges.
"(He) opened the door holding up pepper spray and a large hunting knife," the charges state.
Police then drew their guns and ordered Wilson to drop his weapons. He complied and was taken into custody.
