MURRAY — Police on Sunday announced the arrest of a man after two people were shot and killed during an argument over a parking stall outside of an apartment complex early Saturday.

Murray police responded to multiple reports of a shooting outside of the Brickgate at Fireclay apartment complex, located at 162 W. 4490 South, shortly before 1 a.m., according to spokeswoman Kristin Reardon. Arriving officers found one male dead and another male critically injured; the second person was transported to a hospital, where he died.

The victims were identified Sunday as Laka Girah and Mojtaba Ahmadi. Murray police detectives also said that 19-year-old Sobeth Noge Koki had been arrested for investigation of aggravated murder, felony discharge of a firearm, reckless endangerment and obstruction of justice.

Two video cameras were mounted outside of the residence providing investigators with different angles and audio of Saturday's incident, according to a police affidavit. In the video, Girah can be seen carrying a semiautomatic rifle. Koki, who police described as an associate of Girah, can also be seen carrying a small semiautomatic handgun.

An altercation over a parking stall began between Ahmadi and Girah, resulting in both Girah and Koki chambering rounds in their firearms, actions that were seen as threatening, police said.

Two people with Ahmadi then engaged in an argument with Girah that escalated into a physical altercation and a struggle to gain control of Girah's rifle, according to the affidavit. Shots were fired during the fight; Ahmadi received multiple gunshot wounds and died on scene. Girah was transported by ambulance to a nearby hospital but life-saving efforts were unsuccessful.

Koki fled the scene but was later located, police said. Upon questioning, Koki admitted he was present during the altercation but denied being in possession of a firearm or shooting at anyone, the affidavit states. When presented with the video evidence, Koki stated that he was under the influence of alcohol, mushrooms and marijuana, police said.
