FARMINGTON — A woman was injured and arrested following a crash in Farmington after allegedly fleeing police in a stolen vehicle early Friday.
A Kaysville police officer saw a vehicle run a stop sign at 400 W. 200 North about 2:20 a.m. Friday in a vehicle that was later identified as stolen, according to a police booking affidavit.
The driver, Maria Andrea Garcia, 36, turned onto southbound I-15 where she was observed traveling up to 104 mph, according to police. The officer tried to stop the vehicle, which "continued south at a high rate of speed," the affidavit states.
Garcia lost control of the vehicle as she tried to exit the freeway, crashing near Park Lane in Farmington. The officer reported finding open containers in the crash debris and noting the odor of alcohol.
"Maria later informed me she was currently under the influence of 'blue' which is the street name for fentanyl," the arrest report states. "While Maria was in my custody, she gave my backup officer a false name, returning to another person."
A passenger in the vehicle sustained a neck injury, according to the affidavit.
Garcia was booked into Davis County Jail for investigation of reckless driving, negligently operating a vehicle resulting in injury and DUI, among other things.
Correction: An earlier version incorrectly said the driver was a man.
