LOGAN — A former youth detention officer sent to prison in July after sexually abusing an inmate was given another prison sentence Monday in a separate case, after he admitted to sexually abusing a teenage girl in 2005.
Wesley Kendall Allen, 41, of Richmond, Cache County, was sentenced Monday to one to 15 years in prison for forcible sexual abuse, a second-degree felony. He pleaded guilty as part of a plea deal, which reduced the charge from rape, a first-degree felony.
A woman reached out to police after seeing news coverage of Allen's conviction and said Allen had sexually assaulted her in 2005 when she was 16 and he was 24, according to charging documents. She told police she had mutual friends with Allen and knew, at the time, he was a police officer and was married.
The woman said she had been at Allen's home when he showed her a book with explicit photos, then proceeded to undress and rape her. She said she was afraid to refuse because of his size and because he was in law enforcement.
Allen had been a reserve officer at the time. The investigation found he had been "terminated from several places of employment" for inappropriate sexual behavior when he had been in a position of trust.
First District Judge Spencer Walsh ordered the new sentence to be served consecutive to the current sentence he is serving for sexual abuse while working at a state juvenile services facility in northern Utah.
In that case Allen was sentenced to a term of five years to life in prison for object rape, a first-degree felony. Allen was also sentenced to three terms of one to 15 years in prison for two counts of forcible sexual abuse and sexual exploitation of a minor, second-degree felonies, and a term of zero to five years for tampering with evidence, a third-degree felony.
Allen had been working as a staff member at the Cache Valley Youth Center in Logan, where a teenage girl was being housed. The girl reported a sexual relationship with Allen and said he took her to a portion of the facility without video surveillance several times, according to charging documents.
The girl's mother found her daughter's journal and entries in which she wrote about Allen. The girl told investigators Allen "spoke about keeping things on the down low until she turned 18," court documents say.
