SALT LAKE CITY — Several properties were vandalized early Monday in the Ballpark neighborhood in Salt Lake City.
The Ballpark Community Council said around 1 a.m., pride flags were stolen, fences were torn down and damaged and graffiti was found on properties along Richard Street, West Temple and Merrimac Avenue.
"This is intolerable. Targeting pride flags suggests that these incidents may be part of the same repeated episodes of hate crimes that our neighbors in Central 9th experienced earlier this year. The Ballpark Neighborhood is home to symbols like Harvey Milk Boulevard and organizations like the Utah Pride Center, but most importantly, it is home to our diverse neighbors and small business owners," a statement from the Ballpark Community Council said.
The council encourages anyone else who may have experienced property damage Sunday night to contact Salt Lake City police.
"Help us ensure that hate has no place in Ballpark or in Central 9th," the council said.
