SALT LAKE CITY — After crashing into two parked cars and a fence at a veterans hospital, a 20-year-old driver who allegedly appeared intoxicated was found and arrested by Salt Lake police on Friday morning.
No injuries were reported in any of the crashes, police said.
A hit-and-run crash by a silver Honda Civic was reported at 9:26 a.m. near 2300 E. Garfield Ave., followed by more reports of a wrong-way driver in the same car running red lights on 2300 East and Foothill Drive, a news release said.
Police discovered the Honda had hit another parked car as a consequence of hitting the first.
At 9:34 a.m., police said dispatchers had received word that the driver had crashed into a fence at the George E. Wahlen Department of Veterans Affairs Medical Center.
Officers found the driver in his "heavily damaged" car in a parking lot on the medical center's campus, taking him into custody and noticing signs of impairment, police said. The press release said officers found "several open beer bottles" and a case of beer in the suspect's car.
Police said the driver is in custody for investigation of driving under the influence.
