DRAPER — It's not always about starting hot, but outlasting the energy of your opponent, especially when making a deep November postseason run.

Second-seeded Corner Canyon did a little bit of both in Friday's 6A quarterfinal against 10th-seeded Lone Peak, but really created some distance when it mattered most in the second half.

Senior quarterback Isaac Wilson got both of his passing touchdowns in the first 14 minutes of the game, but the Knights responded with touchdown passes of their own from two different quarterbacks in the first half, leaving the teams tied 14-14 at the break.

Wilson said head coach Eric Kjar told him to "step it up" in the second half, and the Chargers answered the bell, outscoring Lone Peak 14-0 in the third quarter — including an 11-yard rushing score from Wilson — to take a commanding 28-14 lead into the final frame.

The Knights got one back on Luke Christensen's second touchdown pass of the night with 7:03 remaining, but Corner Canyon marched back down the field and pushed the lead to 35-21 with Bryton Brady's second score of the night. Senior Jaxson Arrington sealed the win with an interception as the Knights ran out of time and energy late in the game.

"I liked the way our defense battled in the second half," Kjar said. "I thought they played great and really rebounded. Our D-line kind of got going, put some pressure on those guys, and made the quarterback move around a little bit, so that was huge."

Corner Canyon advances to the semifinals at Rice-Eccles Stadium for the seventh straight year and will face the winner of third-seeded Lehi and sixth-seeded Davis on Nov. 10 at 2:30 p.m. MST.

"We're not done yet," Wilson said. "We gotta keep competing. (We) gotta keep coming out faster, with more energy and (be) more efficient."
