MILLCREEK — Unified police are investigating a shooting that left at least two people with minor injuries — a shooting that they say all started because of an odd request for a spare tire.

Late Tuesday, just before midnight, a group of three to four men at the Artesian Springs Apartments complex, 4197 S. Main, asked a woman if she happened to have a spare tire. Police later found a car in the secured garage area that was missing a tire and seized it as potential evidence, said Unified Police Sgt. Melody Cutler.

The woman called some relatives after the request was made and they responded to the garage. That led to a confrontation with the other group. At least one shot was fired, which hit one man in the cheek and another in the ear, Cutler said. Both injuries were minor. A third man was pistol-whipped.

Because the incident was reported to emergency dispatchers as a possible active shooter, there was a very large police response to the apartment complex.

No arrests had been made as of Wednesday as detectives continued to sort through what exactly happened and who was involved.
